Mythology

The mere existence of Baan Ganga is a true wonder by itself.

Our elders have always told us those stories from our mythology, dating back to the days of Lord Ram. As the stories go, Lord Ram, during his search for Sita, felt thirsty at one point in time. When he mentioned this to his younger brother Laxman, Laxman promptly shot an arrow into the ground and water sprang forth.

Even today, there is a rod in the middle of Baan Ganga, which researchers have not managed put a date on yet. What is truly amazing is that this rod has, so far at least, not rotted at all yet. Also a proper source for the water hasn’t been identified yet, except for the fact that there is a small tributary of the Ganga that adds to the pond.

It is truly awe-striking, the history and mythology behind Baan Ganga.

Entertainment Value

To be a little bit more informative about Ban Ganga would be to tell you why you would need, YES NEED, to go there.
Ban Ganga is surrounded by 25 magnificent temples.
As if this weren't enough, its temple-ey feel is extended by the fact that every year there is at least one magnificent performance. Annually there is a ghazal show at Ban Ganga, and on the day, it looks like heaven. It is the most glamorous place to be when it is all lit up at night, and there are ghazal kings sitting on a floating stage rendering their heart warming singles. It is heavenly to say the least. Jagjit Singh, Vikram Hazra, Pankaj Udaas, they've all been there. It feels so peaceful to just sit there on the steps and absorb the atmosphere, with the beautiful waters to only enhance the feeling.
Ban Ganga has also been recurring location for the shooting of famous films. It has appeared in so many movies, yet so many people know nothing about it. This is probably one of the many reasons that  Ban Ganga is a major touris attraction. During the "foreign tourist season", you would find at least 5 people of non-Indian nationality sitting there. Well, we found David. And he seemed to have agreed majorly with how we feel. 

Preksha Malu, excited about her trip to Ban Ganga just last week, had to say about her trip:
"Well Ban Ganga is 3 km away from Charni road station. We took a train and hopped out and were surprised as to where the hell is Ban Ganga? All we could see were buildings we got down the stairs, walk ahead and took a right. After walking for a few seconds we saw this huge water body with layered bricks on four sides. We knew it in our hearts and I am sure it even you don’t need an explanation . It was the historical place we were talking about since weeks but never had the chance to see it. I personally felt the whole city n Ban Gang. There calmness amidst the chaos. There was peace in the tension of all the people who had made Banganga their home. Everyone had a different story to .But the bottom line was same. Someone was thirsty someone else used their heavenly power and struck the mystical arrow in the ground and Voila!
A water stream came up which is popularly called Banganga today. I wouldn’t advise anyone to drink that water because obviously duck poop! But the experience of the whole experience will never be forgotten. "
